A team of paleontologists, primarily from Loma Linda University, discovered and meticulously documented 16,600 theropod dinosaur footprints in Toro Toro, a national park in the Bolivian Andes. This finding, published in PLOS One, represents the highest number of theropod footprints recorded globally. The footprints, dating back over 60 million years, provide a remarkable window into the lives and behaviors of dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period, including attempts to swim. Despite their ancient preservation, human activities like farming, quarrying, and highway construction have threatened these traces, prompting intervention from Bolivia's national park.
