Ogun State Records 502 GBV Cases

Nigeria — Ogun State recorded 502 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) between January and November 2025, as disclosed by Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development. These cases include sexual assault, domestic abuse, child molestation, and digital harassment. Adijat Adeleye has called on the Nigeria — Lagos State House of Assembly to enact stronger legislation to combat GBV, advocating for special courts and classifying rape as a non-bailable offense. The state, in partnership with organizations like the United Nations, is implementing interventions such as strengthening Sexual Assault Referral Centres, expanding shelters, and conducting sensitisation programs. Challenges include slow judicial processes and underfunded survivor services. Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady, and Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Deputy Governor, have also expressed commitment to addressing GBV.
