Chris Ngige, former Minister of Labour and Employment and ex-governor of Anambra State, has been arrested and arraigned by the Nigeria — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on eight-count charges of N2.2 billion fraud. The EFCC accuses Chris Ngige of awarding numerous contracts from the Nigeria — Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to companies owned by his associates, including Azbir Arena Nigeria Limited (N366 million), Azbir Arena Nigeria Limited (N583 million), Jeff & Xris Limited (N362 million), Olde English Consolidated Limited (N668 million), and Shale Atlantic Intercontinental Services Limited (N161 million). He is also accused of receiving illicit payments totaling N119.6 million from these contractors through his campaign organization. Chris Ngige pleaded not guilty to all charges and has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application on Monday.
