IndiGo GST Penalties and Contest
Analysis based on 10 articles · First reported Dec 12, 2025 · Last updated Dec 26, 2025
IndiGo, a subsidiary of IndiGo, has been issued two Goods and Services Tax (India) penalties by Indian tax authorities. The Additional Commissioner of CGST, Delhi South Commissionerate, imposed a penalty of nearly 59 crore rupees for the financial year 2020-21, while the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, Excise and Taxation Department, Punjab, imposed a penalty of over 13 lakh rupees for the financial year 2021-22. IndiGo believes these orders are erroneous and, supported by external tax advisors, plans to contest them before the appropriate authorities. The airline has clarified that these penalties are not expected to have a significant impact on its financial position, operations, or other business activities. This development follows a period of operational disruptions for IndiGo, which led to regulatory scrutiny from the India — Directorate General of Civil Aviation (India) and a mandate from the India — Ministry of Education (India) to reduce its winter flight schedule.
