Ira Schab, a World War II Navy veteran and one of the last remaining survivors of the 1941 Japanese bombing of United States — Pearl Harbor, has died at the age of 105. Schab was a sailor aboard the USS Dobbin during the surprise attack, which killed over 2,400 United States troops and propelled the United States into the war. He rarely spoke about his experience for decades but in recent years traveled from his home in Beaverton, Oregon, to the annual observance at the Hawaii military base to honor those who died. After the war, Ira Schab studied aerospace engineering and worked as an electrical engineer for General Dynamics — General Dynamics Land Systems on the Apollo spaceflight program. His passing leaves only about a dozen survivors of the United States — Pearl Harbor attack.
