The changes by HDFC Bank may lead to a decrease in customer satisfaction for some debit cardholders due to stricter lounge access rules, potentially impacting HDFC Bank's reputation and customer loyalty. It could also encourage higher card usage for purchase transactions to meet the new spending thresholds.
HDFC Bank has announced significant changes to its complimentary airport lounge access policy for debit cardholders, effective January 10. The bank is shifting from a physical card-based entry system to a digital voucher or QR code system. Additionally, HDFC Bank has doubled the minimum quarterly spending requirement for most debit cards from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 to qualify for lounge access. The Infiniti Debit Card is exempt from this spending condition. Only purchase transactions will count towards the spending criteria, excluding ATM withdrawals, UPI/wallet payments, credit card bill payments via debit card, and EMI transactions. Once eligibility is met, customers will receive a link via SMS or email to claim their voucher, which will be valid until the end of the next calendar quarter.
