Foxconn, Apple Inc.'s largest contract manufacturer, has rapidly scaled up its new iPhone manufacturing facility near India — Bengaluru, India. In just eight to nine months, the plant has hired nearly 30,000 workers, predominantly women aged 19-24, making it the fastest workforce expansion by any factory in India. The facility, spread across 300 acres, began test production with IPhone 16 models in April-May and now manufactures the latest IPhone 17 Pro, with over 80% of its output exported. Foxconn is investing 20,000 crore rupees in the project, which is expected to become India's largest factory in terms of production capacity and employment, potentially housing up to 50,000 workers and a dozen assembly lines. The site is envisioned to become a mini-township with residential, medical, and educational facilities. This rapid growth is a key part of Apple Inc.'s strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China, supported by India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and an expanding local supplier network of nearly 45 companies.
