Nigeria Mandates Public Service Drug Tests

The Nigeria has approved mandatory pre-employment drug testing for all applicants to the Nigerian Public Service, effective December 22, 2025. This directive, issued via a service-wide circular by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, aims to combat illicit drug use and safeguard national productivity and security. Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are required to collaborate with the Nigeria — National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in conducting these tests. The policy is a preventive measure to foster a healthy, disciplined, and dependable workforce, addressing concerns about the alarming rate of substance abuse, particularly among Nigeria's youth, and its potential impact on public health, workplace efficiency, socio-economic development, and national security.
