King Khufu's Boat Reassembled at Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum has begun the public reassembly of a 4,500-year-old cedarwood boat belonging to King Khufu. This ambitious project, involving 1,650 wooden pieces, is expected to take four years and is being overseen by Issa Zeidan, head of restoration. Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy attended the event, emphasizing its importance. The $1 billion Grand Egyptian Museum, inaugurated last month, is anticipated to significantly boost Egypt's tourism revenues and bolster its economy. The boat, one of two discovered in 1954 near the Great Pyramid of Giza, is believed to have been used for King Khufu's funeral or afterlife journey.
