A tragic road accident occurred on December 25 in India — Karnataka's India — Chitradurga district on National Highway 48 (India), near Gorlathu village in Hiriyur taluk. A private sleeper bus, traveling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga (or Gokarna), collided head-on with a truck. The impact caused the bus to catch fire, trapping and charring at least 10 people to death, with the death toll expected to rise. Several others sustained serious burn injuries and were admitted to hospitals in Hiriyur and Chitradurga. Preliminary investigations suggest the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to cross the road divider. Chitradurga Superintendent of Police Ranjith Kumar Bandaru and Inspector General of Police B. R. Ravikanthe Gowda, along with emergency services, responded to the scene. Recovery operations are underway, and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
