MLA Virendra Jati cuts power

Congress MLA Virendra Jati from India — Haridwar, frustrated by frequent power cuts lasting five to eight hours daily in his constituency, took drastic action by personally climbing electricity poles and cutting the power supply to the official residences of three electricity department officials: superintending engineer Vivek Rajput, chief engineer Anupam Singh Gehlot, and executive engineer Vinod Pandey. Jati alleged that his complaints to the department over 10 days had been ignored, and he justified his actions by stating that officials experienced distress after only an hour of power cut, similar to what the public endures for hours. The electricity department filed a complaint against Virendra Jati at the India — Roorkee Civil Lines Police Station, alleging that he cut power lines without a proper shutdown, posing a safety risk and constituting interference in government work. The incident occurred on a Tuesday in Roorkee, with Virendra Jati accompanied by supporters, a ladder, and cutting tools.
