Thailand and Cambodia Sign Ceasefire

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, halting weeks of fierce border clashes that resulted in at least 101 deaths and displaced over half a million people. The agreement, signed by Thai Defence Minister Natthaphon Nakphanit and Cambodian counterpart Tea Seiha, stipulates maintaining current troop deployments without further movement. This conflict reignited in early December after a previous ceasefire, brokered by Donald Trump and Anwar Ibrahim in July, broke down. The ASEAN will monitor the new truce, and bilateral talks are scheduled between Thailand, Cambodia, and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss the border situation. The agreement also includes the return of displaced civilians and 18 Cambodian soldiers held by Thailand, provided the ceasefire holds for 72 hours. The long-standing dispute over undemarcated points along their 817km land border has been the root cause of these tensions.
