An estimated budget of Rs 300 crore has been earmarked for the first five years, with each partner contributing 33.33%. The Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, which includes major pharmaceutical companies like Cipla, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, and Sun Pharma, will serve as the anchor private partner, contributing Rs 25 crore in 2025-26. The IAIRO will function as a non-profit Special Purpose Vehicle under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. Its core activities will include advanced AI research and development, creation of AI-based products and solutions, fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, intellectual property creation, capacity building, and policy-based research. This initiative aligns with the India AI Mission of the Ministry of Information Technology, India — India, and India — Gujarat's AI Action Plan, aiming to position India as a global leader in AI and accelerate sustainable development across sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture.
