India's AI to Add $1.7 Trillion

Artificial intelligence is projected to add $1.7 trillion to India's economy by 2035, making it a major growth engine. India is increasing public investment and policy support for Artificial intelligence through initiatives like the IndiaAI Mission, which has been allocated over Rs 10,300 crore over five years. This mission aims to build computing infrastructure, support startups, develop indigenous Artificial intelligence models, and expand skilling programs. The economic impact is expected across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, financial services, education, governance, and climate services. India's technology sector, which employs over six million people, is expected to see new job categories created and existing roles transformed by Artificial intelligence. The country's Artificial intelligence talent pool is estimated to more than double to over 12.5 lakh professionals by 2027. India has also launched large-scale reskilling initiatives, with over 18.5 lakh candidates enrolled on the FutureSkills PRIME platform. A key part of India's strategy is building affordable Artificial intelligence infrastructure, expanding Graphics Processing Units capacity from 10,000 to 38,000 for startups and researchers. The government is also focusing on inclusion, deploying Artificial intelligence-based tools in Indian languages through platforms like Bhashini and BharatGen. India — NITI Aayog has highlighted Artificial intelligence's potential to support India's 490 million informal workers.
