Uttar Pradesh Electoral Roll Revision Schedule

The India — Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in India — Uttar Pradesh, with the draft voter list now set for publication on January 6, 2026, and the final list on March 6, 2026. This marks the third revision to the schedule. The exercise, which began on November 4 and concluded on December 26 after two extensions, aims to create a 'Clean Electoral Roll, Strong Democracy'. Over 1 crore 'unmapped' voters in India — Uttar Pradesh will need to submit self-attested documents to retain their names. The SIR exercise has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties alleging bias, a charge rejected by the India — Bharatiya Janata Party. Similar SIR exercises are also underway in other states like India — Tamil Nadu, India — Chhattisgarh, India — Kerala, India — Madhya Pradesh, India — West Bengal, and India — Gujarat, with significant deletions reported across these regions.
