Judge Blocks South Sudan TPS End

A federal judge, Angel Kelley, blocked the Donald Trump administration's plan to end temporary protected status (TPS) for hundreds of South Sudanese nationals living in the United States. The United States — United States Department of Homeland Security, led by Kristi Noem, had published a notice to terminate TPS for South Sudan, citing renewed peace in the country. However, a lawsuit filed by African Communities Together and South Sudanese migrants argued that the action was unlawful and ignored the dire humanitarian conditions in South Sudan, which has been ravaged by conflict since its independence from Sudan in 2011. The ruling is a temporary victory for immigrant advocates and prevents the deportation of approximately 232 South Sudanese nationals.
