Tinubu Appoints Oyedepo as DPP

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rotimi Oyedepo as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Nigeria — Ministry of Justice (Nigeria). This appointment follows Oyedepo's transfer of service from the Nigeria — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to the mainstream Federal Civil Service. Oyedepo, a seasoned prosecutor with over 15 years of experience in economic and financial crimes, including his role in the Bangladesh — Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation case, is expected to reduce Nigeria's reliance on external legal counsel and ensure greater coherence in the Federal Government's legal strategies. He will succeed Abubakar Babadoko, who is set to retire on December 31, 2025. The appointment, confirmed by the Nigeria — Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission, is seen as a move to reinforce the capacity of key justice sector institutions in Nigeria.
