Telangana EV Discount for Employees

India — Telangana, led by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has launched India's first state-negotiated EV discount program. This initiative offers up to a 20% discount on electric two- and four-wheelers for approximately five lakh government employees, potentially saving each employee up to ₹4 lakh. The discounts were secured through negotiations with leading EV manufacturers including Mahindra & Mahindra — Mahindra Electric Mobility, Ola Electric, Gravton Motors, and Ather Energy. This builds upon a 2024 policy that granted 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees for EVs. The state also mandated that all government departments purchase only EVs and is actively engaging with companies like Tata Motors to expand partnerships. Furthermore, India — Telangana is expanding its EV charging infrastructure across the state and plans to retrofit one lakh auto-rickshaws with electric kits, aiming to reduce pollution and establish itself as an EV manufacturing and consumption hub.
