The scheme aims to modernize and upgrade immigration and visa services within a secure and integrated service delivery framework, facilitating legitimate travelers while strengthening national security. This extension follows the enactment of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, which necessitates a more robust IVFRT system to address emerging challenges in immigration control and foreigner management. The project, initially approved in 2010 during the Manmohan Singh government, has seen several extensions and budget revisions. The next phase will focus on emerging technology innovations, core infrastructure transformation, and technology and service optimization, including mobile-based services and self-service kiosks. The scheme is expected to boost tourism, medical, and business sectors, contributing to economic growth and employment opportunities in India.
