NHAI Discontinues FASTag KYV Process

The India — National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the discontinuation of the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for all new FASTag issuances for cars, jeeps, and vans, effective February 1, 2026. This reform aims to enhance public convenience by eliminating post-activation harassment and delays faced by highway users. For existing FASTags, KYV will no longer be a routine requirement, only being necessary in specific cases of complaints like incorrect issuance or misuse. Simultaneously, India — National Highways Authority of India has strengthened pre-activation validation norms for Issuer Banks. FASTag activation will now be permitted only after mandatory validation of vehicle details from the VAHAN database. In cases where VAHAN data is unavailable, Issuer Banks must validate details using the Registration Certificate (RC) before activation, with full accountability. These measures ensure all vehicle verification is completed upfront, removing the need for repeated follow-ups with customers and making the FASTag ecosystem more citizen-friendly and transparent.
