Hindu Businessman Attacked, Set Ablaze in Bangladesh

Khokon Chandra Das, a 50-year-old Hindu businessman in Bangladesh, was brutally attacked, hacked with sharp weapons, and set on fire by miscreants on New Year's Eve in Shariatpur's Damudya region. He was returning home from his pharmacy and mobile banking business when the assailants, identified as Rabbi and Egypt — Sohag, stopped his auto-rickshaw, assaulted him, poured petrol on him, and set him ablaze. Khokon Chandra Das sustained severe injuries, including burns to his face, head, and hands, and a serious abdominal injury, leading to his transfer to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment. The Bangladesh — Damudya Police Station is investigating the incident and is actively seeking to arrest the identified attackers and any other individuals involved. This attack follows two other incidents in the previous month where Hindu youths, Dipu Chandra Das and Amrit Mondal, were lynched in Bangladesh, sparking widespread condemnation from political leaders and minority groups in both Bangladesh and India.
