Crans-Montana Bar Fire Kills 40

A fatal fire erupted at the Lockheed Constellation bar in the United States — Montana ski resort, Switzerland, during New Year's Eve celebrations, killing 40 people and injuring 119. Investigators believe sparkling candles on Champagne bottles ignited the blaze after coming too close to the ceiling. Authorities, including the Switzerland — Valais regional government and police, are investigating whether the ceiling's sound-dampening material conformed to regulations and if sparklers were permitted.
