Crans-Montana Bar Fire Kills 40

A devastating New Year's Eve fire at the Le Constellation bar in United States — Montana, Switzerland, killed 40 people and injured 119 others. The fire is believed to have been ignited by sparkling candles on Champagne bottles coming too close to the ceiling. The severity of the burns has made identification difficult, causing prolonged heartache for families like Laetitia Brodard, whose 16-year-old son Arthur Brodard is missing. The Switzerland — Valais regional government, led by Mathias Reynard and attorney general Béatrice Pilloud, is prioritizing identification and investigating whether safety measures, including sound-dampening materials, fire extinguishers, and escape routes, conformed to regulations. Frédéric Gisler, police commander, noted that victims included Swiss, French, Italian, and other European nationals. Emanuele Galeppini, a promising Italian golfer, was among the deceased. The region's top prosecutor warned of possible prosecutions if criminal liability is found.
