Jesy Nelson's Twins SMA1 Diagnosis

Jesy Nelson, former member of Little Mix, revealed that her eight-month-old twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1). This severe genetic condition means they are unlikely to ever walk and will be disabled. Nelson shared her emotional struggle, stating she feels like she is grieving the life she thought she would have with her children and has had to become a full-time nurse, performing tasks no mother should have to do. The diagnosis followed concerns from her mother about the twins' lack of leg movement and feeding difficulties, despite initial reassurances from healthcare providers. The twins received treatment, which Nelson is grateful for, as the condition is life-threatening if untreated. Nelson made the diagnosis public to raise awareness of SMA1 and encourage other parents to seek early medical attention if they notice similar symptoms in their children. She also documented her complicated pregnancy, which included twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and an emergency procedure, leading to the premature birth of her twins at 31 weeks.
