Britain's Youngest Dementia Patient Dies

Andre Yarham, Britain's youngest known dementia patient, tragically died at the age of 24 on December 27, after battling frontotemporal dementia caused by a protein mutation. He was diagnosed a month before his 23rd birthday, with an MRI scan revealing his brain resembled that of a 70-year-old. His mother, Sam Fairbairn, became his full-time carer as his condition rapidly declined, leading to loss of speech and mobility. Andre Yarham's family, including Sam Fairbairn, donated his brain to medical science in the hope of aiding future research into the 'cruel' disease. He had a relatively normal upbringing, playing sports and briefly working at Geely — Lotus Cars before his illness made it impossible to continue. His death occurred at Priscilla Bacon Lodge following an infection.
