The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a budget of ₹11,718 crore for this exercise, which was postponed from 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The census will also include caste enumeration, a significant change since India's independence. Around 30 lakh enumerators will use mobile applications for data collection, aiming for improved data quality and efficiency.
