Brown University Campus Shooting

On December 13, a gunman opened fire inside an academic building on the Brown University campus during finals week. Students used Sidechat, an anonymous campus message board, to share real-time information and navigate the crisis, often before official alerts were issued. The incident led to a campus-wide lockdown, causing significant fear and distress among students. The gunman was later found dead in United States — Keene, New Hampshire from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was linked to the killing of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor. The event resulted in two student deaths at Brown University and prompted the university to commission external reviews of its safety protocols.
