Buratai Sues Ali-Keffi for Defamation

Tukur Yusufu Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, has filed a ₦1 billion defamation lawsuit against fellow retired military officer Danjuma Ali-Keffi at the Nigeria — Federal High Court of Nigeria in Kaduna. The suit alleges that Danjuma Ali-Keffi made false and malicious statements in 2025 interviews, widely circulated on social media and news platforms like Sahara Reporters, linking Tukur Yusufu Buratai to terrorism financing and the illegal release and concealment of Boko Haram suspects during his tenure. Tukur Yusufu Buratai denies these claims, stating he has never been investigated or convicted for such offenses, and argues that the allegations have severely damaged his reputation and integrity both nationally and internationally. He seeks a court order compelling Danjuma Ali-Keffi to retract the statements, issue a public apology, pay ₦1 billion in general damages, and a perpetual injunction to prevent further publication of the alleged defamatory content. The court has not yet set a hearing date, and Danjuma Ali-Keffi has 21 days to respond to the writ of summons.
