Jana Nayagan Censorship Controversy

The film 'Jana Nayagan', starring actor-turned-politician Vijay and produced by Lyca Productions, has faced significant hurdles in obtaining certification from the India — Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The CBFC initially withheld certification, citing potential issues with religious sentiments and referring the film to a revising committee. This decision led to legal action, with Lyca Productions approaching the India — Madras High Court. A single-judge bench initially directed the CBFC to grant certification, but a division bench subsequently stayed this order, leaving the film's release in limbo. Lyca Productions has since appealed to the India — Supreme Court of India. The controversy has drawn political attention, with Rahul Gandhi accusing Narendra Modi and the Indian government of attempting to suppress Tamil culture and the voice of the Tamil people by blocking the film's release.
