Nigeria Budget Office Clarifies NEDC Allocation

The Budget Office clarified that the N246.77 billion allocated to the Nigeria — North East Development Commission is a statutory lump-sum provision, not solely for personnel costs, and is presented at an aggregate level consistent with standard budget preparation practices under the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework. It was also explained that a N2.70 billion capital expenditure figure cited by commentators reflects a Nigeria — National Assembly (Nigeria)-approved rephrasing of capital votes in the 2025 budget, with about 70% deferred to the 2026 fiscal year. The Budget Office emphasized that personnel costs are necessary for the Nigeria — North East Development Commission to deliver its mandate and that detailed project schedules outline ongoing interventions across the North East of Nigeria.
