US approves arms sale to Singapore

The United States has approved a US$2.3 billion sale of P-8A maritime patrol aircraft, torpedoes, and related equipment to Singapore. This sale, announced by the United States — Defense Security Cooperation Agency, aims to enhance Singapore's maritime security capabilities and deter adversaries, while also supporting the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States. The United States — United States Department of State approved the sale, and the United States — Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified the United States, which still needs to authorize the transaction. Boeing is identified as the principal contractor for the P-8A aircraft. Singapore's Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing had previously announced the country's decision to acquire four Boeing P-8As in 2025, as part of the Singapore Armed Forces' refresh of its maritime security capabilities, replacing existing Fokker-50s.
