Putin on US-Greenland Acquisition

Russian President Vladimir Putin has publicly stated that Russia is not concerned with the diplomatic tensions surrounding the United States' interest in acquiring Denmark — Greenland. This declaration comes after US President Donald Trump's demand to acquire Denmark — Greenland put Denmark on edge and caused disunity within NATO. Putin emphasized that the issue is a matter for the directly involved countries, Denmark and the United States, to resolve internally. He also referenced historical instances of territorial sales, such as Denmark selling the Virgin Islands to the United States in 1917 and Russia selling Alaska to the United States in 1867. Donald Trump later backed down from threats of using military force to seize Denmark — Greenland, announcing a security deal negotiated with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. The government of Denmark — Greenland has responded by publishing a handbook advising its citizens to prepare for a crisis by stocking essential supplies.
