Boy Dies After Sydney Shark Attack

Nico Antić, a 12-year-old boy, tragically died on January 24, nearly a week after being attacked by a shark in University of New South Wales Harbour, Australia. The incident occurred on January 18 while Nico Antić was playing with friends in Vaucluse. He sustained severe injuries to both legs and was transported to Sydney Children s Hospital, Randwick, where he remained in a coma before his passing. The attack was part of a series of four shark attacks along the Australia — New South Wales coast within 48 hours, prompting authorities in University of New South Wales to temporarily close dozens of beaches. Poor water quality following heavy rainfall is believed to have contributed to the increased shark activity. A GoFundMe campaign raised nearly USD 240,000 to support the family of Nico Antić.
