Girl Drowns in Fuerteventura Hotel Pool

Francesca Blease, an 11-year-old girl from United Kingdom — Cheshire, drowned in a shallow children's pool at the Club Jandia Princess Hotel in Spain — Fuerteventura, Spain, during her first family holiday abroad. Francesca Blease, who was terrified of water and could not swim, was found unresponsive by a hotel guest. Despite CPR efforts by fellow holidaymakers and paramedics, she was airlifted to a hospital in Spain — Gran Canaria where she died the following day due to severe brain hypoxia. The inquest, led by HM Senior Coroner for United Kingdom — Cheshire Jacqueline Devonish, concluded her death was an accident. While Francesca Blease was unsupervised, the coroner stated there was no foreseeable risk given the pool's shallow depth. Dr. HMY Britannia, an expert in drowning physiology, suggested Francesca Blease might have lost her footing, panicked, and inhaled water.
