ADC Accuses APC of Coercion

The Nigeria — African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling Nigeria — All Progressives Congress (APC) of coercing civil servants across several states in Nigeria to register for its ongoing e-registration exercise. Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria — African Democratic Congress, described this practice as 'economic coercion and forced membership', warning that it violates constitutional rights and undermines the neutrality of the civil service. The Nigeria — African Democratic Congress emphasized that compelling Nigerians to join a political party is a gross violation of fundamental human rights. In response, the Nigeria — All Progressives Congress, through its Deputy National Publicity Secretary Duro Meseko and Director of Information Bala Ibrahim, strongly denied the allegations, stating that Nigerians are voluntarily joining the party due to the perceived achievements of President Bola Tinubu's administration. The Nigeria — African Democratic Congress has called on relevant authorities, including the Ghana — Data Protection Commission (Ghana), civil society organizations, and the international community, to investigate what it views as a potential abuse of power and violation of data privacy and human rights. The Nigeria — All Progressives Congress had previously extended its e-registration deadline to February 8, aiming for a 12-million membership target.
