Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the commissioning of a new 105 million gallons per day (MGD) Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant in India — Delhi by 2026. This Rs 599 crore project, managed by the India — Delhi Jal Board, aims to significantly strengthen India — Delhi's water supply infrastructure, improve water quality, and reduce non-revenue water losses from 30-45% to below 15% within three years. The project, originally approved in 2012, faced delays and cost escalation of nearly Rs 400 crore due to repeated tender cancellations and non-compliance with Japan — Japan International Cooperation Agency guidelines. It will cover approximately 92 square kilometers, benefiting around 11% of India — Delhi's population in densely populated areas. Additionally, the India — Delhi government is replacing water supply and distribution pipelines for Rs 1,331 crore, with two of three distribution projects already awarded.
