The launch of the Yamaha EC-06 in India by Yamaha Corporation is expected to intensify competition in the electric two-wheeler market, potentially affecting the market shares of existing players like TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Ola Electric, and Ather Energy. This move also supports India's broader electric mobility and sustainability goals, which could attract further investment into the country's EV infrastructure.
Yamaha Corporation has officially launched its first electric scooter, the EC-06, in India, priced at Rs 1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This strategic entry into the electric mobility segment aligns with India's 'National Mission on Transformative Mobility' and its goal of achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2070. The EC-06, co-developed with River, features a 4kWh fixed battery, an IPMSM motor, a top speed of 79 km/h, and a certified range of 169 km. It comes with a 3-year or 30,000 km battery warranty, three riding modes (Eco, Standard, Power), and an LCD screen with connectivity features. The scooter will initially be available in select cities through Yamaha Corporation's Blue Square showrooms. This launch positions Yamaha Corporation as a new competitor against established players such as TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp's Vida, Ola Electric, and Ather Energy in the rapidly growing Indian EV market.
