Chuck Negron, the lead singer and co-founder of the classic rock band Three Dog Night, died on Monday, February 2, 2026, at his home in Studio City, California, at the age of 83. His publicist, Zach Farnum, stated that the cause of death was complications from heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which he had battled for three decades. Negron, along with Danny Hutton and Cory Wells, founded Three Dog Night in 1967, achieving 21 Billboard Top 40 hits between 1969 and 1975, including three No. 1 singles like 'Joy To The World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog)' and 'One (Is the Loneliest Number)'. His struggles with drug addiction led to the band's initial breakup in 1976 and his dismissal in 1985 after a relapse. After overcoming his addictions in 1991, Chuck Negron embarked on a solo career, releasing seven albums and becoming an advocate for substance abuse recovery. He also authored a memoir, 'Three Dog Nightmare'. Despite his COPD, he continued touring until the COVID-19 pandemic. He is survived by his wife, Ami Albea Negron, five children, and nine grandchildren. Danny Hutton expressed his condolences, recalling a recent reconciliation with Chuck Negron.
