This assistance will be disbursed on the occasions of Holi and Diwali through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts. The scheme aims to provide relief from inflation to economically weaker families and is part of the India — Bharatiya Janata Party's election promises. The estimated annual expenditure is approximately ₹242.77 crore, subject to adjustments based on LPG prices, India — India subsidies, and the number of beneficiaries. Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive ₹553 per cylinder, while non-Ujjwala ration card holders will receive the full ₹853 per cylinder. The scheme is universal, covering all ration card holders regardless of whether they use LPG or PNG for cooking.
