Netflix 'Ghooskhor Pandat' legal challenge

Mahender Chaturvedi has filed a writ petition before the India — Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release and streaming of the upcoming Netflix film 'Ghooskhor Pandat'. The petitioner alleges that the film's title and content defame the Brahmin community by associating the term 'Pandat' with corruption and bribery. The plea argues that this portrayal violates fundamental rights under Articles 14, 21, and 25 of the Constitution, infringing on dignity and cultural identity. The petition also claims that the Union Government has failed to establish an effective regulatory mechanism for OTT platforms, allowing for community-based vilification for commercial gain. Mahender Chaturvedi seeks an interim order to halt streaming during the case's pendency and directions for the Union Government to take action against Netflix India. The film, starring Manoj Bajpayee and written by Dheeraj Pandey and Ritesh Shukla, was announced for release later this year.
