Mumbai–Pune Expressway Gas Tanker Accident

A gas tanker carrying highly flammable propylene overturned near the Adoshi Tunnel on the Agra–Mumbai Expressway, causing a massive traffic jam that lasted over 18 hours and stranded thousands of commuters. Industrialist Sudhir Mehta, chairman of EKA Mobility and Pinnacle Industries Limited, was among those stuck and used a helicopter to escape. He subsequently called for urgent infrastructure improvements, including emergency exits and mandatory helipads along the expressway, to better manage future crises. The incident sparked a public debate on emergency preparedness and accountability of civic and highway authorities in India. Authorities, including the India — National Disaster Response Force and Bharat Petroleum Limited, worked to restore traffic, which resumed almost 33 hours after the accident.
