Mumbai-Pune Expressway Gas Tanker Jam

A gas tanker overturned on the Agra–Mumbai Expressway, causing a massive traffic jam that lasted over 30 hours and stranded thousands of commuters. Industrialist Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of Pinnacle Industries Limited and EKA Mobility, was among those stuck for eight hours and subsequently took a helicopter to return to India — Pune. He criticized the lack of emergency preparedness and suggested implementing planned exit points and helipads along the expressway for future incidents. The accident, involving a tanker carrying highly flammable propylene gas, led to the suspension of traffic for safety reasons due to gas leakage. The India — Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation eventually cleared the site and restored traffic after 33 hours, but the incident exposed significant challenges for commuters, including lack of food, water, and toilet facilities.
