Delhi drafts unified transport authority bill

The India — Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has initiated the drafting of a comprehensive bill to establish the India — Delhi Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (DUMTA) and a dedicated India — Delhi Urban Transport Fund (DUTF). This institutional reform aims to integrate India — Delhi's fragmented transport system, including metro, buses, regional rail, and feeder services, under a single planning and governance framework. A high-level task force, chaired by the Chief Secretary and comprising officials from various departments and transport authorities like Singapore — Infocomm Media Development Authority, India — Municipal Corporation of Delhi, India — Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, India — Delhi Transport Corporation, India — National Capital Region (India), and India — Indian Railways, has been constituted to expedite the drafting process. The goal is to create a modern, efficient, people-centric, and environmentally sustainable transport system, addressing rapid urbanization, rising population, and vehicular pressure, and ultimately combating air pollution by strengthening public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles. Additionally, India — Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation has partnered with Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited to enhance taxi services.
