The interim trade agreement between India and the United States is expected to significantly boost India's exports, particularly for MSMEs, farmers, and fishermen, by reducing tariffs on various goods. This could lead to increased job opportunities in India and foster deeper economic cooperation between the two nations, positively impacting related industries.

India and the United States have reached a framework for an interim trade agreement, announced by India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. This pact is projected to open a USD 30 trillion market for Indian exporters, especially benefiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, and fishermen, and is expected to create numerous job opportunities. Under the agreement, the United States will reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods to 18% across key sectors such as textiles, apparel, leather, and machinery. Tariffs will also be eliminated on generic pharmaceuticals, gems, diamonds, and aircraft parts. India will receive exemptions on aircraft parts and tariff rate quotas on auto parts. The agreement also ensures the protection of India's sensitive agricultural and dairy products, including maize, wheat, rice, and poultry, safeguarding farmers' interests and rural livelihoods. This interim deal is a step towards advancing the broader US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement negotiations initiated by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2025.
