US Lawmaker Introduces EXILE Act

Republican Representative Greg Steube of Florida introduced the 'Ending Exploitative Imported Labour Exemptions Act' (EXILE Act) in the United States Congress, aiming to abolish the H-1B visa program. Steube argues that the program has been misused by corporations, displacing American workers and prioritizing foreign labor. The bill proposes to set the number of H-1B visas at zero starting in fiscal year 2027. Proponents of the bill cite examples such as Microsoft displacing employees, FedEx closing facilities, The Walt Disney Company laying off workers, and Edison International — Southern California Edison firing staff, all linked to the use of H-1B visas. The move comes amidst increased scrutiny on immigration, including enhanced screening of H-1B and H-4 visas by the United States — United States Department of State, which has led to interview postponements for many professionals, particularly from India and China.
