Sudan Nile River Ferry Capsizes

A passenger ferry capsized on the Nile River in Sudan, resulting in at least 15 deaths and 6 missing individuals. The ferry, carrying 27 people including women and children, sank in the Shendi district of the northern Nile River province. The Sudan Doctors Network reported the incident and highlighted the vulnerability of river transport, lack of basic safety measures, and absence of local authorities and civil defense teams during the initial hours. The group urged authorities in Sudan to deploy specialized rescue teams and equipment to aid in search and recovery efforts. Boat accidents are not uncommon in Sudan due to overcrowding and lax safety enforcement.
