The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has launched its e-Pantry service on 25 Mail and Express trains, allowing passengers to pre-book meals online. This initiative, which was piloted on the Vivek Express, aims to improve convenience, hygiene, and transparency in onboard catering, especially on routes where meals are not included in the ticket fare. Passengers can order standard meals and Rail Neer through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ticketing platform, receiving a Meal Verification Code (MVC) for seat delivery. The system supports cashless payments, offers refunds for non-delivery, and uses digital tracking for accountability. Officials, including V. K. Bhatti, indicated potential expansion of the service based on passenger response, as part of India — Indian Railways' broader strategy to modernize passenger services.
