Modi made a historic landing at the facility aboard a C-130J aircraft, formally dedicating it to the nation. The Rs 100-crore facility is designed for dual civil and military use, serving as a strategic runway for India — Indian Air Force fighter jets and transport aircraft, and an alternative to Dibrugarh Airport during emergencies. The India — Indian Air Force also conducted an air show with Rafale, Sukhoi, and MIG fighter aircraft demonstrating take-off and landing. This ELF is considered a major strategic addition to India's military infrastructure, enhancing operational flexibility and disaster response, especially given its proximity to the Line of Actual Control with China. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal were also present at the event.
