Palmerston, the former chief mouser of the UK Foreign Office, has died peacefully in Bermuda on February 12 at the age of 12. A rescue cat from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Palmerston served in Whitehall for four years from 2016 before retiring in 2020. In February 2025, he came out of retirement to serve as a feline relations consultant to the Governor of Bermuda, Andrew Murdoch. Tributes were paid by various individuals and his former rival, Larry, the chief mouser of Downing Street.
