The report's findings indicate a significant growth trajectory for India's retail market, driven by economic resilience and AI adoption, which is positive for investors in the retail and technology sectors. Retailers that embrace AI-led transformations are expected to capture a disproportionate share of this growth, influencing investment decisions and market strategies.
A joint report by Boston Consulting Group and the Brewers Association of India, titled 'Winning Codes for Retail 2035: Capturing the ₹200 Trillion Prize', projects India's retail market to more than double in size, reaching Rs 210-215 trillion by 2035 from Rs 90-95 trillion in 2025. This growth is attributed to India's resilient economy, which is expected to become the world's third-largest by 2030, and a sharp rise in digital adoption, particularly artificial intelligence. The report, unveiled at the Retail Leadership Summit 2026 in Mumbai, emphasizes that AI will fundamentally change consumer shopping behavior and retail operations. Abheek Singhi and Bharat Mimani of Boston Consulting Group, along with Kumar Rajagopalan of the Brewers Association of India, highlighted the need for retailers to adopt end-to-end AI transformations across merchandising, supply chain, marketing, and customer service to unlock significant performance gains and remain competitive in the evolving market.
